Relapse is the most common and the most depressing problem with addictions. Is it possible to prevent them successfully? Thousands of patients have proven that it is possible. They became new people and that is why they are healthy now. We have clients who are sober for more than 15 years and they recollect with disbelief that drugs and alcohol used to be their reality.
How did those people achieve that?
Everyone who tried to stay clean knows how difficult it can be. Fortunately, nowadays there is a chemical protection against relapse – medications that reliably protect from going back to drugs and substance abuse called Naltrexone.
Naltrexone (or ‘heroin blocker’) is a narcotic antagonist; it blocks the effects of heroin (and all other opiates like methadone, subuxon...) by blocking the opiate receptors within the brain. Naltrexone is extremely effective in blocking opiates. It works by binding to some of the drug receptors in one’s brain, preventing opiates from attaching. If opiates are taken, they simply will have no effect and therefore are a waste of money. Except for that, there is a risk of heroin overdoses along with an absence of having chemical pleasure (getting high).
Beginning with Naltrexone relapse protection is only possible after a high quality detoxification. After the detox is finished, the patient is tested to opiate drugs to make sure that he is 100% clean from all drugs, otherwise, the withdrawal symptoms might begin.
Invented in the late 60-ees, Naltrexone is being implemented for more than 40 years in clinical practice. It is studied and tested thoroughly by FDA for the treatment of drugs and alcohol addictions.
