Effective Relapse Protection

Relapse is the most common and the most depressing problem with addictions. Is it possible to prevent them successfully? Thousands of patients have proven that it is possible. They became new people and that is why they are healthy now. We have clients who are sober for more than 15 years and they recollect with disbelief that drugs and alcohol used to be their reality.

How did those people achieve that?
Everyone who tried to stay clean knows how difficult it can be. Fortunately, nowadays there is a chemical protection against relapse – medications that reliably protect from going back to drugs and substance abuse called Naltrexone.

Naltrexone (or ‘heroin blocker’) is a narcotic antagonist; it blocks the effects of heroin (and all other opiates like methadone, subuxon...) by blocking the opiate receptors within the brain. Naltrexone is extremely effective in blocking opiates. It works by binding to some of the drug receptors in one’s brain, preventing opiates from attaching. If opiates are taken, they simply will have no effect and therefore are a waste of money. Except for that, there is a risk of heroin overdoses along with an absence of having chemical pleasure (getting high).

Beginning with Naltrexon relapse protection is only possible after a high quality detoxification. After the detox is finished, the patient is tested to opiate drugs to make sure that he is 100% clean from all drugs, otherwise, the withdrawal symptoms might begin.

Invented in the late 60-ees, Naltrexone is being implemented for more than 40 years in clinical practice. It is studied and tested thoroughly by FDA for the treatment of drugs and alcohol addictions.

Naltrexon in 50mg tablets or capsules for oral reception is issued under the trading name Revia, Nalorex, Antaxon and others. One capsule of Naltrexone blocks access to opiate receptors for not less than 24h.

Advantages:
- Simple for implementation in outpatient treatment

Disadvantages:
- Dailey reception is required in the period of few months without one single day missed
- After a short while, a patient might start feeling strong enough to be able to stay clean without taking the Naltrexone pills. He or she might leave home without their stock of medication. He or she might forget taking the medicine. At the end, he or she might change their mind and refuse to take the pills. Soon after that, relapse happens in the majority of cases.
- A person is forced to make a decision (consciously or subconsciously) on daily bases whether or not to take medicine, whether or not to take heroin instead. This constant internal struggle of motives depends on the mood swings. What will happen tomorrow?
- For guaranteed regular reception of Naltrexone a long and intense control by relatives is required. As a result - mistrust, insults of the patient, new conflicts, suspicions. In fact, everyone in the family got tired of struggling and quarrels during the long period of illness.

Naltrexone implant or Naltrexone depot (Naltrexone pellet) is much more reliable and more convenient. It is inserted in the body providing necessary concentration of a Naltrexone medicine for longer time.

All implants are made in USA, see US Patent No. 6,203,813
